Summary

Thoroughly revised and updated, Image Processing: The Fundamentals includes a new chapter on image processing and colour. as well as several new sections on even and odd symmetric cosine transforms, and even and odd sine transforms, as well as a new section on Independent Component Analysis (ICA).Presenting the material at two levels, readers can use the direct text in order to gain a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of image processing, with advanced material contained within boxes interleaved throughout the text explaining the mathematical details of topics. The book covers basic topics of image processing such as image transformations, image enhancement, image restoration, edge detection and image segmentation, and image colour analysis. Provides several significant new sections on sine and cosine transforms, and a substantial additional section on Independent Component Analysis. Contains a large number of fully solved examples, as well as counter-examples illustrating what might go wrong with an algorithm. Set out so that the direct text allows for an understanding of the basic concepts, and more advanced material is interleaved in boxes throughout the text for further reference. CD containing MATLABreg; code of the authorsrs" implementation of algorithms will be provided with the book. There will also be an accompanying website providing slides available for download for instructors as a teaching resource. Written in clear terms so that readers from a wide range of disciplines with basic mathematical knowledge can use this text
