Summary

This biography recounts the exploits of famed adventurer Lee Christmas, who rose from humble beginnings as a tramp railroader to become embroiled in the political turmoil of Central America at the turn of the twentieth century. Scoundrel, soldier of fortune, company man for United Fruit in Honuras, colonel for the government forces, then a general of the rebels, Lee Christmas lived a life of constant action, uncertainty, and change. Written in a fast-paced style well suited to its subject, this biography brings to life the drama that characterized the era of US gunboat diplomacy.
