Recent years have witnessed the emergence of new forms of industrial unemployment brought about by processes of continuous restructuring, or vertical disintegration, of aspects such as re-location. Whilst not producing a major impact on the employment levels, these forms are nonetheless changing the employment relations. The debate has however been anchored to mainstream economic positions, which explain this phenomenon in terms of the negative effect of labour regulation on company economic performance.Captivating and comprehensive, this book is a comparative study of the industrial unemployment and restructuring in the chemical and clothing sectors of two industrial areas, Teesside in the UK and Brindisi in Italy.
