Summary

English summary: The model of Inner Mission that combined social care and religious instruction has been exported since the mid-19th Century. It was used to create a social and religious infrastructure of German Protestantism abroad. Using the oldest German Deaconesses in Dusseldorf-Kaiserswerth as an example, the author explores in a longitudinal study the areas of Orient work in Jerusalem, Constantinople, Beirut, Cairo and Alexandria. Excitingly he describes in particular the situation in Palestine from the inter-war period to the end of the Kaiserswerther engagements in the 1970s. National politics, culture and religion are reflected in the work and fate of the deaconesses. German text.
