He died knowing only that the maiden voyage of the Great Eastern had ended in disaster and that the Clifton suspension bridge, his first major triumph was still uncompleted. Author Biography

Richard Tames is the originator of the 'Lifelines' series. He read history at Cambridge, took a Master's degree in politics at London and teaches for Syracuse University's London Programme. He is a qualified 'Blue Badge' tourist guide.
