Summary

This book argues that Jewish values are not fixed propositions embedded in written form that can be easily handed off from one generation to the next. Rather, they are necessarily the product of contemporary Jewish minds. Moses L. Pava provides a model for the appropriate use of religious and spiritual values in one's personal and organizational lives, emphasizing respect for individual autonomy, pluralism, and democracy, and a deep regard for other moral traditions. Although written from inside the Jewish tradition, the work's lessons can be extended for beyond. In imagining Jewish ethics as a kind of dialogue, Pava examines several issues ranging from the appropriate role of wealth, how to engage in conversations with the "new atheists." the most appropriate metaphors for the global economy, and how to speak about spirituality with others who might not share one's own worldviews.
