Today, the business he began in 1857 still thrives in the San Luis Valley.

Emerita Romero-Anderson grew up in San Luis, Colorado, where she lived the life inherited from her Spanish colonial ancestors.She is the author of a picture book entitled Grandpa's Tarima. Emerita taught for twenty-seven years before retiring to research and write stories for children.
