Summary

Couples in love, headless horsemen, and villagers come together in a diptych that to be both magical realism and terror. In these two stories, Sleepy Hollow, or The Legend of the Headless Horseman, and Rip van Winkle, is the seed of the so-called American Gothic, which made Washington Irving one of the first writers of American literature.
