Author Biography

Mario Lemieux is a former professional ice hockey player, generally acknowledged to be one of the best players of all time. He played 17 seasons as a forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins between 1984 and 2006, leading them to two Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992. Tom McMillan is vice president of communications for the Pittsburgh Penguins and has written about Mario Lemieux since the spring of 1984, when he was rated the top prospect in the NHL draft. McMillan followed Lemieux's career closely as a writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and later as editor of Penguins Report. He wrote a history of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1994 titled The Penguins, Cellar to Summit. Marc Serota started his career in photojournalism at the Miami Herald, moving on to contract photography for International Wire Services. His sports photography includes all major league sports, the Daytona 500, and the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. His magazine covers include Sports Illustrated, Inside Sports and USA Today, and his work has been featured in Time, Newsweek, People, Rolling Stone, GQ, Elle, and Esquire.
