Summary

On the shore of the Eastern Sea, in a cold stone fortress, a stoat named Badrang holds dozens of innocent creatures as slaves, part of his scheme to build an empire where he will rule as unquestioned tyrant. Among those slaves is a mouse named Martin who has a warrior’s heart and a burning desire for freedom—freedom not only for himself, but for all of Badrang’s victims. There is no risk he will not take, no battle he will not fight, to end the stoat’s evil reign and in the process regain the sword of his father, Luke the Warrior—the sword that Badrang stole from him when he was but a lad!

Author Biography

Brian Jacques says: "What was the story behind Martin the Warrior? "Many readers asked me to tell of his life before he came to Mossflower woods, a lonely figure who was already a seasoned fighter and seemed not to want to remember his past. So in this tale we go back to the time long before, when Martin was born on the harsh Eastern Coast. His mother is cruelly murdered by marauding sea rats, and his father leaves him to go in search of revenge. "Then into his young life comes the Tyrant Badrang! Martin is enslaved, but he is brave and resourceful and never bows down under the cruelty of the tyrant. Martin becomes a natural leader and vows to bring down the evil regime of Badrang. So we see the adventure that solves the mystery of the early life of the legendary hero whose spirit became the inspiration for all the Redwall creatures." Brian Jacques is the author of the best-selling Redwall novels, as well as many related books. He was born and still lives in Liverpool, England. Visit his Web site at www.redwall.org.
