Summary

Sir Quett Ketummile Joni Masire was born in 1925 in Kanye, Botswana.While his early years were spent teaching and farming, Masire went on to hold key positions in government and was instrumental in bringing about Botswanan independence from the British in 1966.He was Vice President of Botswana from 1966--1980, and President from 1980--1998.He remains active in humanitarian causes today.His writings are part memoir and part a fascinating handbook on how one builds a democratic nation and economy that benefits the vast majority of its citizens.
