"Oh, you've found my pet dragon," Princess Puglug said with a yawn. "He's boring. Ugly Thing's going to be much more fun! She hasn't eaten her tea, though, naughty girl."
She dumped Emily on a doll's chair.
Emily rubbed her shoulder. "Nasty brute!" she said tearfully. Her frightened blue eyes looked too big for her pale little face.
"What did she say?" Puglug demanded.
"Er...tasty fruit!" said Muncle. "I think she wants fruit."
Puglug took a chunk of birthday cake out of her pocket and licked the fluff off it. Then she put it on the table. "We haven't got any fruit," she said, "so stop being fussy."
"Just do what she wants," Muncle whispered to the frightened girl. "Eat your cake."
"Cake?" Emily gasped. "It tastes as if it's made from worms and slugs and toadstools."
Muncle was surprised. "Isn't that the kind of cake you like?"
