Summary

Significant advances have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis in the last ten years that have greatly improved the health outcomes for many patients. However, despite these advances, osteoporosis still poses major clinical challenges to the clinician. Non-adherence to drugtherapy is a widespread problem in patients with rheumatic diseases and osteoporosis in particular. Part of the Oxford Rheumatology Library and written by one of the co-authors of the Oxford Handbook of Rheumatology, this pocketbook summarizes the latest developments in the management of osteoporosis and serves as a practical resource for trainees in rheumatology, endocrinology and geriatricmedicine, as well as general practitioners and paramedical staff involved in osteoporosis care.
