Summary

Designed to mirror how social work theory and practice is taught,Paradigms of Clinical Social Work, Volume 3presents new therapeutic models through an imaginary family, "the Shores," experiencing problems with mental illness, child abuse, unemployment and marital dysfunction. The case of this family is used to demonstrate essential treatment techniques and concepts, exploring a number of therapeutic approaches ranging from the classic to the cutting-edge. One of the major additions to this volume is its focus on diversity in social work practice. In fact, the idea for this volume was inspired by students' need for a theoretical and practical framework for working with diversity. For part of the book, details are added so that "the Shores" are transformed from a lower-middle class family into another ethnic group. Their case is then re-evaluated and adaptations to the therapeutic paradigms already outlined are discussed. Paradigms of Clinical Social Work, Volume 3is a uniquetext in social work education. Each paradigm of social work is presented in the same format and subheadings, allowing for an easy comparison between different treatment techniques. This volume will be a valuable resource for social work practitioners and clinicians as well as graduate and undergraduate students of social work.
