Summary

The Pistis Sophia is unquestionably a document of paramount historical importance, not only in terms of Christianity but also with respect to the development of Western religion. It originated among the early Christian mystics called Gnostics (meaning "those who know," because of their spiritual wisdom). Gnostic teachers were persecuted and most of their writings destroyed, so Pistis Sophia stands as an extremely important, as well as magically engaging, window into these mystics' thoughts.
