Author Biography


Lorne Tepperman is Professor of Sociology and Health Studies at the University of Toronto. He is also Director of the Health Studies program at University College, University of Toronto. Lorne served as Chair of the Department from 1997 to 2003, and has won many teaching awards, including the Dean's Excellence Award, an Outstanding Teaching Award from the Faculty of Arts and Science, and an Oswald Hall Teaching Award given by the Department of Sociology. In 2003, Lorne received the Outstanding Contribution Award from the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association. He is the author of several books, including Sociology: A Canadian Perspective and Social Problems, Second Edition.
James Curtis (deceased) was a pre-eminent academic and intellectual figure of national and international prominence and recognition. As such, he has commonly been described as one of the most respected and influential sociologists that this country has ever produced. In addition to winning several teaching awards, Jim was recognized by the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association for Outstanding Contribution to the field of sociology in 2000, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Highly productive and collaborative, his publishing credits include over 100 books, journal articles, and book chapters.
