Summary

This is the first major book on the contemporary artist Robert Theirrien and features his most important pieces of work. Known primarily as a sculptor, Therrien takes ordinary objects and makes them unfamiliar, removing functionality in order to reveal the potential metaphoric associations of the object. For Therrien, the act of art-making is fundamentally about looking at something from a different perspective, and enticing viewers to do the same. Therrien's one-man exhibition of sculptures is opening in May at Gagosian in New York City and will remain open all summer.
