The first book on the Scottish Junior Cup Over 150 images, virtually all previously unpublished Foreword by Billy McNeillThe Scottish Junior Cup has been played for since 1886 and is one of football's oldest trophies. With over 160 teams in contention each year, the knockout competition is an important feature with those towns, and sometimes villages, which field a team in the competition. Over 77,650 attended the 1951 Scottish Junior Cup Final between Petershill and Irvine Meadow XI.From 1946 onwards, a program was issued for the Scottish Junior Cup Final and it is from then that Tom Purdie has chosen to concentrate. The knockout aspect of the competition has always seen a mix of teams win, but the tournament has often been dominated by the Ayrshire teams such as Auchinleck Talbot and Glenafton Athletic. The Junior Cup is, however, a unique event and one that sees whole towns deserted while their teams are playing in it, with finals traditionally held at Hampden Park.Tom Purdie, Operations Manager for Hamilton Academicals, tells the story of this well-known football tournament from 1946.
