In a career that has spanned six decades, Françoise Sullivan ( b. 1925) has been a pioneer multi-disciplinary artist. As a visual artist she was a member of the Automatists, artists known for their advocacy of artistic and social change in Quebec in the 1940s. And as a dancer and choreographer she was the author of one of the first political treatises on dance published in Canada. This publication documents the revival of a dance project originally conceived by Sullivan in 1948 and dedicated to the cycle of the seasons. Sixty years later the work has been recreated by four dancers and recorded in a video co-directed by Mario Côté and Françoise Sullivan and in photographs by Marion Landry. A scholarly essay on the career of Françoise Sullivan is accompanied by numerous archival and contemporary illustrations.
