The accompanying text is short but informative, with notes on general biology as well as on identification. Small Woodland Creatures covers the commoner 'creepy-crawlies' and their artefacts likely to be encountered on woodland walks - from ants to worms and from galls to woodworm holes. They are arranged by animal group and also by the place they might be found, whether inside fungi or wrapped in leaves. Sections on significant aspects of the animals' biology - parasitism, camouflage, and so forth - are introduced alongside the groups for which they are relevant. A pleasure to dip into, the book will be an invaluable accompaniment for woodland walks at any time of the year.

Author Biography

Lars-Henrik Olsen is author of many books on animals and wildlife, as well as historical novels. He has worked in the exhibitions department of the Zoological Museum, is a founder member and former leader of the Worldwide Fund for Nature's Panda Clubs, and has been employed by Danish television since 1979 as a professional consultant and adapter of nature films. Illustrators: Larvae and plants: Bente Vita Pedersen studied at the Danish School of Applied Art. She has worked as a book illustrator and has held exhibitions of her own works. Also works in Tivoli as a portrait and landscape artist. All adult animals and silhouettes: Jakob Sunesen studied graphics and illustration at the Danish School of Applied Art and is a portrait and nature artist.
