Author Biography

Ricky Lee Allen is a Ph.D. student at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies and visiting instructor of education at Whittier College Stanley Aronowitz is distinguished professor of sociology at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Lynn S. Chancer is visiting associate professor in sociology at Fordham University Paulo Freire, renowned scholar, is considered the most globally influential educator of the last fifty years. His contribution to this volume is one of the last pieces he wrote before his death in 1997 Donna Gaines is a journalist and sociologist. She is a New York State certified social worker Henry A. Giroux holds the Waterbury Chair Professorship at Penn State University Charles "Paco" Hernandez is completing his master's degree in education at Boricua College Jessie Klein is a Ph.D. candidate in sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center. She is also a guidance supervisor at a NYC public high school, Humanities Preparatory Academy Zeus Leonardo is an assistant professor of education at California State University, Long Beach Donaldo Macedo is distinguished professor of liberal arts and education and director of graduate studies in applied linguistics at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Peter McLaren is a professor in the division of urban schooling at the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, University of California, Los Angeles Jennifer Obidah is an assistant professor in the division of educational studies at Emory University Stephanie Urso Spina is in the Ph.D. program in psychology at The Graduate Center of The City University of New York
