JOHN J. GRABOWSKI is curator of manuscripts at the Western Reserve Historical Society. He is co-editor of and contributor to Cleveland: A tradition of Reform and co-editor (with David D. Van Tassel) of The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History (Indiana University Press, 1987).
