Summary

In recent decades, the study of the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, the Septuagint, has attracted substantial interest. Numerous studies on its origins and development, text-critical relevance, lexicography, translation technique and a multitude of other aspects related to it have been published. It is also noteworthy, from within this context, that a number of translation projects into several modern languages have been launched. Within this current context and as part of a Joint Project of Bilateral Scientific Cooperation between the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and University of Stellenbosch (South Africa), the Centre for Septuagint Studies and Textual Criticism (Faculty of Theology, K.U.Leuven) organised a Specialists' Symposium on the Septuagint Translation. This scholarly meeting took place from 4 to 6 December 2006 at the Leuven Faculty of Theology, Research Unit Biblical Studies.
