Author Biography

About the Author and Illustrators Rockies native Kim Lipker is a writer, new mom, and an outdoor enthusiast based in the beautiful town of Fort Collins, Colorado. Her family recently made the move there, so most of this book was researched and written while they lived in the resort town of Steamboat Springs. She grew up floating the rivers of Wyoming, skiing the various inclines of Colorado, and watching the wheat grow on her grandparents' farms. Along with her husband Bruce, she continues to explore the world as well as her home: The Rocky Mountains. A new addition and sixth-generation native of Colorado—Anna—has joined the fun. The author's newest addition, a fourth team member—Alex—was born at press time. Kim received her Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has worked in advertising, newspaper publishing, and other endeavors but now focuses solely on her writing. Her work on the Rockies, other destinations, and other subjects has appeared in newspapers, magazines, and commercial products. Kim has enjoyed traveling the geographic mass of Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho specifically for this book and has relished the opportunity to show her infant daughter the wonders of the people, beauty of the region, and the uniqueness of bed-and-breakfasts. Rashell Smith, Karl Brandt, Brent Savage, and Clint Lahnen are the talented contributing illustrators for this book. They are all part of the Indianapolis Production Services Department for Hungry Minds, Inc. Rashell is a graduate of International Business College with a degree in Graphic Design. She is from Mays, Indiana and loves to garden and play softball. Karl is a Graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Computer Graphics. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife Bridget and enjoys listening to and playing music. Brent is also a Graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Computer Graphics. He lives in Fishers, Indiana, and works part-time for the Fishers Fire Department. Clint is a graphic artist and enjoys fishing, hockey and golf in his spare time. He and his wife Amanda have two children, Courtney and Cooper, and reside in Pittsboro, Indiana.
