Between 1853 and 1870, hundreds of streets and thousands of buildings were demolished in Paris. Much of the city's history was lost as the Medieval and Renaissance quarters crumbled. When Leonard Pitt discovered that the Parisian neighbourhood where he once lived was entirely rebuilt during this period, he set out on a mission to reconstruct this lost city. Author Biography

Leonard Pitt is an actor and author. He has written two books on Paris, Walks Through Lost Paris and Paris Postcards: The Golden Age, plus A Small Moment of Great Illumination. He currently codirects The Flying Actor Studio, a conservatory for the study of physical theater located in San Francisco. He has performed and taught around the world and lives in Berkeley, California.
