Summary

What do you do When Textbooks Fall Short? When students don't engage with textbooks that seem like artifacts full of disconnected facts?

Author Biography

Nancy Walker, Thomas Bean, and Benita Dillard know that teachers today are swamped. They've seen students and teachers struggle with textbooks that don't teach, and their research supports the belief that nontraditional texts help everyone, including teachers. Nancy is a professor in the teacher education department of the University of La Verne. Tom is a professor in the department of curriculum and instruction at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and editor of The Journal of Adolescent Adult Literacy. Benita is a teacher and recently completed doctoral studies in the department of curriculum and instruction at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
