Summary

In the last ten years there has been an extraordinary rise in demand for the wines of South America. Packed with vital, up-to-date information about the most forward-moving wine-producing region of the twenty-first century. Wines of South America is the first book to map in detail the classified wine regions of South America. Monty Waldin identifies each of this dynamic region's key wine-producing areas, explains their evolving wine styles, viticultural and winemaking practices, and profiles their finest producers and their best wines. He investigates how the international success of these wines is the result of both an astute awareness by producers of what the market demands and an impressive drive to control quality against quantity in the vineyards and winery. Plus he reveals how investment and consultancy from wine producers worldwide have been key to facilitating these changes. For each area, there are detailed maps that show the aspect and location of recommended producers and fact boxes with information about climate, soil, and grape varieties. Wines of South America is the perfect guide for all lovers of South America's wines. From Chile's health-restoring Cabernet Sauvignons or Argentina's aromatic and spicy Torrontes to Uruguay's blockbuster Tannats or Bolivia's high-altitude and elegant Grenaches there is a wine to suit every taste.
