Summary

The Roaring Fork Valley, extending from Aspen to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and its side valleys and surrounding mountains provide many opportunities for winter activities. Everyone is familiar with the downhill skiing opportunities, but the unlimited potential for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and winter hiking are less familiar to most. The ski mountains provide uphilling possibilities, the Nordic centers offer outstanding packed trails for cross-country skiers and snowshoers, and the many trails and roads leading into the mountains give winter locals and visitors many routes to enjoy and explore on their skis and snowshoes, or on foot.

Author Biography

Warren Ohirich has hiked, skied and snowshoed the many trails and routes in the Roaring Fork Valley and nearby for over 25 years. He has authored several summer hiking guidebooks, a guide to the 10th Mountain Hut System, a snowshoe and cross-country skiing guide, and a number of maps of the Aspen to Glenwood Springs area. His publications reflect his experience and a desire to promote enjoyment of this mountainous paradise.
