Summary

World House Now showcases thirty houses from around the world that present compelling evidence for a new Modernism. However, unlike the International Style that preceded it, this new architecture integrates the unique features of the physical and cultural landscape into the universal language of Modernism. The result is a rich and varied collection of works that are similar in their attitudes and approaches to building but are diverse stylistically. With houses by Tadao Ando in the United States and Glenn Murcutt in Australia alongside exemplary works by rising international architects, World House Now presents a comprehensive survey from previously overlooked countries such as India, South Africa, and China, as well as Australia, Japan, and Brazil, where Modernism has deep roots.
Through photography of interiors and exteriors, clear plans and sections, and individual essays and captions for each project, the thirty extraordinary houses present evidence of a powerful direction in contemporary residential architecture.
