Summary

From the wild windswept snowfields of its source in Tibet, to the rich farmlands of its delta which flows into the Yellow Sea, the mighty Yangzi has always had symbolic and practical significance for the Chinese. They refer to it simply as the Long River. Nearly 4,000 miles long, the river is China's main artery, supporting a third of its people; it also serves as the country's major commercial waterway.

Author Biography

Australian-born Judy Bonavia spent some 30 years in Asia, living in Vietnam, Hong Kong and China. Updated by Peter Neville-Hadley who abandoned a career in arts marketing to write about China. He researched and wrote the book China: The Silk Routes and has contributed to various publications on a wide range of Chinese destinations.
