Summary

This edition of the uncollected poems of Timrod more than doubles the number of poems formerly collected. Together, this book and the Memorial Edition present in competent texts all of his known poetry. The editor has included only poems signed with the poet's name or with his pseudonym, unless special evidence was available. Such evidence for testing authenticity is given in footnotes.

Author Biography

Guy A. Cardwell taught American literature at Tulane University, the University of Maryland, Washington University in St. Louis, and SUNY, Albany. He was also a guest professor at the University of Vienna, the University of Buenos Aires, and the National University of Mexico. Author of such books as The Man Who Was Mark Twain, Charleston Periodicals, 1795-1860 and Twins of Genius, Cardwell also wrote prize winning poetry and short stories.
