Summary

This monograph examines the politics and economics in Southeast Europe. The political economy of the region from 1990 to the present is considered in order to understand the pressures that wars and recent economic reforms have exerted on these nations. This book interweaves political and economic concepts of the recent past, and particularly focuses on the enlargement of the European Union. The countries studied have undergone unique phases of growth and social betterment, and the co-authors provide readers with a single, coherent source concerning prospects of further socioeconomic growth, peace and prospective European Union membership. This is an important academic study that provides a useful overview of this turbulent corner of Europe - learning lessons from the recent past, and suggesting directions for a more stable future.
