Summary

English summary: The correspondence between the Czech historian and literary theorist Balbin and the German teacher, poet and playwright Weiser provides vivid evidence of the knowledge transfer in the early modern period of sectarian barriers: Balbin was a Jesuit; Weise, however, was a Protestant. Despite their different worlds of experience, both lead a subject-oriented frank exchange of views, in particular on questions of historiography and genealogy, as well as on rhetoric. Weise mediated for Balbin the contacts to the circle of collectors around Otto Mencke as editor of the Leipzig Acta Eruditorum. He therefore allowed him access to a pan-European dimension of academic dialogue in which he found international recognition through the published reviews of all ten volumes of Miscellanea Historica Regni Bohemiae, published during his lifetime. This edition contains all 102 surviving letters, of which 63 are from Balbin and 39 from Weise. German & Latin text.
