Summary

[Collecting Systems]: [Learning Book #001] is part of an ongoing discussion of how knowledge is distributed and produced. Unused materials are generated in enormous quantities every day. In this specific discussion, Learning Group is curious about how unused materials are put to use in three local situations (Moriya, Japan; Monterrey, Mexico; and Chicago, United States). Economics, environmental conditions, labor, property rights and many other issues are investigated in tandem by learning Group to produce a variety of perspectives and possible courses of action. This book shows four projects by Learning Group and the numerous people who worked with them: a cardboard house the construction of which was learned from the shells of sea urchins, a wearable walking city, and two houses made of plastic bottles and other gathered materials. Author Biography

Learning Group consists of Rikke Luther, Cecilia Wendt, Julio Castro, and Brett Bloom. Rikke Luther and Cecilia Wendt are cofounders of the artistic group N55. Julio Castro is a member of the artist collaborative group Tercerunquinto, which is based in Monterrey and Mexico City. Brett Bloom is cofounder of the artist group Temporary Services, which is based in Chicago.
