Summary

Starship Spotterwas created more than two centuries ago to serve as a reference guide to assorted space-going vessels. Captains of the spaceships of the United Earth Space Probe Agency used this simple paper tool to enable a ship's crew to quickly distinguish friend from foe in the unexplored reaches of the cosmos. When the services were merged to form Starfleet, this paper book disappeared from use. Only recently rediscovered, the newest editions of this book have been the sole purview of Starfleet Academy. Each year, a new class of Starfleet cadets carefully reviews and revises the contents. The ships displayed inStarship Spotterhave been chosen as a tribute to the crews who have served on them and the valor shown, regardless of the ship's affiliation. Although only thirty ships could be included, the cadets feel these ships reflect the noble history of space travel. We proudly present to you the Class of 2383 edition ofStarship Spotter.

Author Biography

Adam "Mojo" Lebowitz resides in Los Angeles, but still treasures his New York upbringing. His interborough education between Brooklyn Technical High School and the School of Visual Arts turned him into what can only be described as "an artist with chutzpah." Mojo headed west in 1992 to be the first employee of Foundation Imaging, the visual-effects studio behind the groundbreaking computer-generated imagery for Babylon 5. His career as computer-generated imaging supervisor for B5 and then Star Trek: VoyagerR earned him an Emmy Award and two other nominations. Although he feels his greatest accomplishment has been finding good bagels, pizza, and Chinese food in L.A., Mojo now works as a freelance producer/visual-effects supervisor and can be e-mailed at mojo@mojoplex.com. Robert Bonchune is a native of Montreal and a proud French Canadian. After college he decided to change his view and job by moving to Los Angeles. Rob got a job building models for film and television, and an opening at Amblin Imaging enabled him to learn CGI. Rob has worked on the effects for SeaQuest DSV, Babylon 5 and Star Trek: Voyager. Now working at Foundation Imaging, he and his co-author were part of the team that won an Emmy in 1999. Jonathan Lane was born and raised in New York City and moved to Los Angeles in 1993 to seek his fame, his fortune, and earthquakes. Over the years, Jonathan has worked as a consultant for numerous Star TrekR projects. He is most proud of his work writing the menu for Quark's Bar and Restaurant at Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton, giving names and descriptions to such culinary delights as "The Wrap of Khan," "Fisherman's Worf," and the "Hamborger," as well as such drink specialties as "Wesley's Crush" and the infamous "Warp Core Breach." Today, Jonathan earns his living as co-creative director for the Willy Wonka Candy Factory Web site (www.wonka.com). Alex Rosenzweig has been a fan of the technical and background aspects of Star Trek since the mid-1970s, when Franz Joseph pioneered the genre. Gathering lists, building chronologies, and otherwise describing "how things work" in the world of Star Trek are a big part of his enjoyment of fandom. Alex is very excited to participate in researching and compiling information for Starship Spotter and hopes everyone enjoys reading the text as much as he enjoyed writing it. Alex lives in New Jersey and works as a production editor for a large consulting firm. He loves reading and the written word.
