Author Biography

Karen Hanson Chalmers, MS, RD, CDE is a Certified Diabetes Educator and Director of Nutrition Services at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Massachusetts. She received the 1992 Nutrition Education Award from the American Association of Diabetes Educators and The American Dietetic Association's 1997 Emerging Dietetic Leader Award for the State of Massachusetts. Chalmers has lectured nationally and internationally and has written extensively for both health professionals and patients. Amy E. Peterson, MS, RD, CDE is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator with a Master of Science degree in Nutrition Education from Boston University. She is a Diabetes and Nutrition Educator at the Joslin Diabetes Center. Peterson has 11 years of experience as a dietitian, with special interests in the areas of diabetes, weight management, and complementary health care. She enjoys teaching, lecturing, and writing about nutrition for both health care professionals and the public.
