Why can't I just search by title & edition?
According to ISBN.org, the ISBN should change any time the product changes. This can mean a new copyright date, corrections, cover, translation, media type (such as hardcover vs paperback), supplemental materials, etc. There are a lot of unknowns when it comes to finding your book using the title alone.
The safest way to be a successful book finder is to search using a unique 13-digit ISBN.
What if I can’t find my ISBN?
The ISBN can often be found on the first few pages of the book by the copyright information. It can also sometimes be found on the back cover, near the barcode. If you’re not sure what your ISBN is, then you can also search by title or author & then select the best edition for you based on other criteria such as copyright.
