Summary

An inspirational gathering of fifty-nine new hymn texts, anthems, and poems by the author of Borrowed Light (OUP, 1994) and co-author, with composer Carol Doran, of New Hymns for the Life of the Church (OUP, 1992), and New Hymns for the Lectionary (OUP, 1986). Thomas Troeger is one of the mostimportant American figures in the liturgical renewal movement and is in great demand for workshops, lectureships, and special worship services. His poems and texts for music are widely used by composers, even more widely adapted to standard hymn-tunes by parish musicians, and used by individuals andgroups for private devotion. This powerful new collection covers the entire church year along with a broad range of contemporary concerns and issues. The texts are conveniently indexed according to meter, theme and image, and Scripture.

Author Biography

Thomas H. Troeger is the Ralph E. and Norma E. Peck Professor of Preaching and Communications at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado, and director of its Doctor of Ministry program in homiletics. Ordained in the Presbyterian Church in 1970 and in the Episcopal Church in 1999, he is dually aligned with both traditions. Author of more than a dozen books in the fields of preaching and worship, and a frequent contributor to journals, he is also a poet whose work appears in the hymnals of most denominations. He has led conferences and lectureships in worship and preaching throughout North America and in Holland, Australia, and Japan. Much of his teaching and scholarship has focused on the function of the imagination in the life of faith.
