Summary

Thomas McCombie (1819-1869) was a Scottish journalist, merchant and politician. He travelled to Australia in 1841 and became editor of the Port Phillip Gazette. He discovered gold mines and drew public attention to the potential fortunes in the area. He was concerned with colonial affairs and he presented much legislation to adjust immigration and land owning in the colonial territories. His works include: Adventures of a Colonist; or, Godfrey Arabin the Settler (1845) and Frank Henly; or, Honest Industry Will Conquer (1867).
