Summary

This book chronicles the dreamworld experiences of T. Sapientis, a philosophy student who is heavily burdened by the problems of the world. After starving for two days, in part because of the pressure to finish a conference paper, and in part because he is dead broke and has no food in the house, he suddenly rushes out of his basement apartment to buy food at a nearby Safeway store. At the store, he meets two tramps who, to his surprise, could engage him on the finer arguments of Descartes and Hume about the mind and body. He faints, and is rushed to the emergency room of the University of Washington Medical Center, where he experiences a series of dreams touching on some of the questions that he had been grappling with in his waking life.
