You Held MeThe first time I met you,I knew you were meant to take my roleYou were so kind to me, patient, understanding,a woman with a lovely soulAnticipated as you were to become a mother,you still comforted me in my time of painThe emotions that overtook me,feeling as if I were hit twice by a trainTrusting you to be the mother,that I knew I was not meant for them, to beEven though I gave them life,God always said you were their mother, not meAll the pieces of our meetings,just seemed to fall into placeAnd my once tears of anger and jealousy,God sought to replaceThe bits and pieces of your personality,reminded me a bit of my ownI remember the nervousness in your voice,the first time we ever talked on the phoneYou're their mother through all the good and bad,the love that you hold for them with just one simple lookI hope one day you can sit down,and read them the poems from me out of this bookI remember in the department store,when I had to get away, and you knew whyYou never seemed angry, nervous perhaps,but you told me you could never replace me, then held me and let me cryOur tears both out of pain, joy, and mercy,we connected that day, we connected as oneGod brought us both together twice, in fact,and mothers together, we love all three, our love shining as bright as the sun
