Summary

This is a fictional autobiography that travels from the heartland to Hollywood, from the 1940s through the mid-1990s, told by a star whom everyone adored and no one really knew. Alana Paige. Her fans still say she should have won the Oscar for best actress, the one that went to Elizabeth Taylor. They say she was born poor little Billie Jo Payner from Midland, Texas, which she hated. But few fans knew about her troubled, complicated childhood. Alana escaped from her problems into the movies, living her dreams on the silver screen, and her dreams came true when Hollywood made her a star. Then why did Alana Paige so abruptly disappear? Why did a woman with so much glamour and fame, so much talent and warmth, decide to desert the spotlight? In every public figure's life story there is a very private secret: Can Alana tell the truth about the child born out of wedlock? And what really happened the night Alana's brother-in-law was shot to death?

Author Biography

Author Nancy Ferguson was born in Iowa, having spent part of her childhood in Texas and her young adulthood in Chicago. She married young, had 4 daughters and 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. She has met her share or difficulties, one daughter passed away with Hodgkins Disease when she was 18 and 5 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Nancy came from a generation that mainly stayed home with the kids but she experienced the garment business, worked for a psychologist, has written 3 novels and tried just about every craft known to man. She's lived an adventurous life having flown a plane, taken up tennis at 70 years old, served as a bailiff in Family Court in Hawaii, been shipwrecked in the Philippines, taken her two youngest daughters and drove around Europe in a camper for a year, rode an elephant in Nepal, heard tigers roar in India and crewed on the largest trimaran in the world in her maiden voyage down the St. Lawrence on her way to be a dive boat in the Virgin Islands. The most consistent activity and adventure in her life has been scuba diving. More than 30 years of diving has taken her to many exotic places: to the wrecks of WWII in Truk Lagoon, to Fiji, New Guinea, Bali, the Philippines, all over the Caribbean ... she's experienced hurricanes in the Sea of Cortez, hugged a moray eel, ridden a manta ray and most awesome, dived with the humpbacks in Hawaii.
