Author Biography

ANGELA L. MILLER is professor of art history at Washington University, St. Louis. Her research focuses on the cultural history of 19th and 20th century American arts. Her specialized interests include visual constructions of nationhood, early American modernism, and the cultural histories of arts between the two world wars.

 

JANET C. BERLO is professor of art history and visual and cultural studies at the University of Rochester. She is a leading authority on indigenous arts of the Americas. Her other research interests include quilt history and folk art.

 

BRYAN WOLF is Bryan J. Wolf is the Jeanette and William Hayden Jones Professor in American Art and Culture at Stanford University. His research interests range widely and include the intersection of painting and literature and the development of ways of seeing from the seventeenth century to the present.

 

JENNIFER L. ROBERTS is assistant professor of History of Art and Architecture at Harvard University. She has published books and numerous essays on 19th and 20th century American art and material culture.
