Summary

The shopping center is woven into the tapestry of American life. It is the heart of thousands of communities across the nation, a place where all generations gather to shop, mingle, dine, play and be entertained. America's Marketplace is the first archive to explore the evolution of an industry that has risen to become a vital facet of contemporary life. To sketch an accurate portrait, author Nancy E. Cohen interviewed more than 50 pioneers, executives and influential leaders in the shopping center industry. This new publication is a joint effort by ICSC and The Greenwich Publishing Group. This hardcover coffee table book spans 160 pages and is illustrated cover to cover with colorful photographs. A treasured keepsake, it also makes an elegant gift.

Author Biography

Nancy E. Cohen is the author of Doing a Good Business: 100 Years at the Bon-Ton, a history of that department store chain (Greenwich Publishing Group, 1998), and two books, Crisis Communication and Niche Marketing, published by the International Council of Shopping Centers. She has written extensively about retailing, restaurants and shopping centers for business publications. Before turning to a writing and editing career, she developed a hands-on knowledge of the retail trade's nuances by running a boutique in Scarsdale, New York. The wide range of her work, which encompasses art history, travel guides and cookbooks, suggests that breadth of her interests. She lives and works in New York's Greenwich Village.
