Summary

Anxiety in My Body is a story about a young girl who experiences various physical symptoms of anxiety. At first, the child is fearful, uncertain, and confused, but when she learns that these physical feelings are anxiety and gets support, she feels less scared and more in control of her body.
Written by Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Jordan Long, Anxiety in My Body is ideal for children ages 5-8 as well as parents, educators, and mental health professionals. This book includes easy-to-understand language and descriptive illustrations of over twenty physical manifestations of anxiety, recommendations for coping skills, detailed information about the fight, flight, freeze response, best therapeutic interventions for anxiety, and more!
Anxiety is now widely discussed with children, but the scope of the body sensations that can accompany anxiety is left out of the conversation. This book fills that gap. Kids need to know about the emotional and physical manifestations of anxiety so that they will feel less scared and more empowered to calm their bodies, understand the mind-body connection, ask for help, and know that they are not alone.

Author Biography

Jordan Long is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist whose personal experiences with anxiety led her to become a therapist in hopes of supporting others through their most vulnerable times. Jordan owns the private practice Vital Mind Therapy where she sees clients in person in San Francisco, CA, and virtually throughout California (www.vital-mind-therapy.com). Before becoming a therapist, Jordan worked with children as an executive functioning coach and psychological testing assistant.
Jordan's mission is to educate children and their loved ones about the mind-body connection, normalize how anxiety can affect us physically, and empower children to talk about how their bodies feel and ask for help. She believes awareness is the first step towards relief, and normalization is the key to connectedness. Jordan's dream is to write books to support children through anxiety challenges.
