Excerpts

A Note from the Author

Purchasing this book means you have undertaken the challenge of studying AP European History and taking the AP European History exam. I congratulate you on this decision. It shows you are not afraid to work hard and learn about the world around you. AP History courses give you a taste of college level work and academic expectations. Experiencing these more rigorous standards now will prepare you well for what comes next in your education.

AP exams cover a lot of material, which can be an overwhelming experience. You will not be expected to know everything, but you will be challenged to demonstrate your knowledge of trends in the human experience.

This book is purposely designed to give you practice with the multiple-choice section of the AP European History exam. The more you practice these questions and answers, the greater your confidence will be when taking the exam. Study the questions and answers in this book to review and expand your knowledge of European history.

AP European History is a college survey course and divides history into three main categories:

1. Intellectual and Cultural History covers ideologies, the arts and religious trends;

2. Political and Diplomatic History has to do with political movements, international relations and wars;

3. Social and Economic History deal with industrialization, social structures and class hierarchies.

Based on my experience as an AP History teacher, this book gives you a broad sampling of the types of questions you will see on the test. I wish you well on the exam, and hope that your understanding of the 21st century will be enhanced by what you learn in your AP course. Our lives connect with the past constantly—we have to know how to see the connections.

Best of luck with your studies and the exam!
