Summary

Young boys are being kidnapped and then strangled to death in Chicago, while the same is happening to girls in St. Louis. Is there one killer driving up and down I-55, or two separate killers? Detective Joe Keough and his partner, Harriet Connors, recently assigned to the federal Serial Killer Task Force, are dispatched from Washington, D.C., to find out. For Keough, it has been a long time since he was last in his hometown, St. Louis. Keough has been part of the task force for just over a year and is not happy. He is considering yet another career change. The task force may be opening a Midwest office where he would love to be transferred---or it might be disbanded. A lot will depend on what Keough and Harriet can do about these two cases of serial murders. But Keough is distracted by his ongoing battles with diabetes and recurring memories from his past. Filled with modern images of St. Louis, Robert J. Randisi spins another fascinating, multilayered murder mystery.

Table of Contents

Praise for East of the Arch

"[Randisi] delivers an action-packed police procedural that is balanced by its many effective subplots. East of the Arch is enhanced by a shocker of an ending, reminding us that sometimes politics trumps crime detection. . . . Once again, the St. Louis-based author has used his home as a unique setting for a fascinating tale."
--Florida Sun-Sentinel

"Robert J. Randisi, who has authored several series, keeps the plot moving, the clues intriguing, and the action suspenseful. And Joe Keough is complex and interesting enough to sustain the reader's curiosity throughout. East of the Arch is a deft piece of crime fiction."
--Mystery Scene

"Action-packed. . . . Keough is no cliché cop, but an engaging character with a welcome streak of compassion. . . . Randisi's well-paced procedural keeps the reader asking what happens next right up to the logical and effective finale."
--Publishers Weekly

"Randisi is a masterful writer and East of the Arch is a finely tuned, high octane, wheel-burning dragster. A thrilling ride down the straightaway of suspense. With the baddest bad guy I've seen in ages and the toughest, most down-to-earth police detective who takes no guff and wastes no time. This is a fast furious ride, but Randisi is firmly in control every step of the way."
--James W. Hall, author of Blackwater Sound

"Robert J. Randisi writes so effortlessly---in a fast, lean style, with dialogue so real you might well be eavesdropping---it's easy to overlook his sharp characterization and breakneck narrative drive. It will be a crime if Joe Keough does not return for more Arch adventures."
--Max Allan Collins, author of Road to Perdition

"Robert Randisi has long been held as a master of the genre, and East of the Arch is just one more reason why. The book grips, it absorbs, it stirs. Randisi knows the secret; it's not so much about how cops work on cases but how cases work on cops. That's why he's one of the best."
---Michael Connelly, author of City of Bones
