Die 'Nikomachische Ethik' des Aristoteles ist in Bagdad um 830 von Eustathios (Us'a? ) und um 870 von Is'aq ibn ?unain ins Arabische ubersetzt worden. Erhalten ist davon eine einzige Handschrift in der Qarawiyin-Moschee in Fes in Marokko, in der die Bucher I-IV die Version des Is'aq und die Bucher V-X die des Eustathios wiedergeben. Beide Ubersetzungen gehen auf griechische Handschriften zuruck, die alter als die erhaltenen Codices waren. Gegenuber den Editionen von Bywater und Susemihl-Apelt weisen die arabischen Texte zahlreiche Varianten auf; diese sind zum Teil durch griechische Codices (insbes. den Cod. Laurentianus) oder die lateinische Version des Robert Grosseteste (13. Jh.) bezeugt, zum Teil bisher unbekannt. Unter den zu erschliessenden "neuen" Lesarten gibt es etwa ein Dutzend Falle, durch die Korruptelen der griechischen Codices geheilt werden konnen. Die arabische Tradition muss daher bei einer Neuedition des griechischen Textes unbedingt berucksichtigt werden.
