Summary

In 1950, two French priests on a spiritual journey travelled to Tamil Nadu in southern India. Here, by the banks of the sacred river Kaveri they put on the orange robes of Hindu renunciants and began a life of meditation, founding the ashram (hermitage) Shantivanam. In 1968, an English monk named Bede Griffiths became the ashram¿s guru, teaching there until his death in 1993. During the last nine years of Griffith¿s life, one of his students was author Thomas Matus. In Ashram Diary Matus¿ recounts the remarkable experiences he had in India, at the Shanitvanam ashram, and with Bede Griffiths. He offers up vivid recollections of his travels to sacred Hindu and Buddhist shrines, his conversations with fellow seekers on the path, and invites readers share in his quest for spiritual enlightenment.
