Excerpts

PrefaceThis third edition came about because of both the continuing immigration of relatively large numbers of Asians and because of the growing consciousness of many Americans about the increasingly multicultural nature of American society and the increasing self-consciousness and assertiveness of Asian Americans and other long-ignored American ethnic group members. We have again added new material to reflect developments in the last years of the millennium, updated the bibliographies, provided new demographic and economic data, and incorporated suggestions and corrections offered by some readers. We welcome such input. H. H. L. K. R. D.
